Mana Espresso was born out of two things. One: the love for coffee. Two: the most terrifying experience of our lives. In our native England (God Save the Queen) we both worked in restaurants, but it was in Paris, whilst at the University of London institute in Paris that our jobs inspired us to open our own place. Coffee became, bizarrely, what Paris stood for in our lives, having worked at Bob's Food Etc, Café Loustic and Coutume Café between us. We learnt the ropes of coffee and running a business from most notably, Channa Galhenage, Kevin Ayres, Amaury Rebouhl-de Veyrac Blin de Grincourt, Marc Grossman.
Coffee is an obsession of both of ours and we strive for the highest possible quality everyday. Each day is an opportunity to do better than yesterday. So why Mana? Mana Pools is a National Park on the banks of the powerful Zambezi River. 10,000km2 of untamed bush. Here comes the most terrifying experience of our lives. Whilst camping on the banks, in a tent barely suitable for Glastonbury Festival, and whilst night fell rapidly, down the campsite we hear the call: LIONS. Torches followed the group, two females and two young, on the hunt. They make their way towards us in our tent. Sticks break under their feet, right next to us. We freeze. Motionless. Their breath the only noise. Our lives were spared but the story lives on.
Mana Pools never leaves our minds, the most beautiful and scary place in this world, there was only one name for our café.
